Rome's official gay and naturist beach, tucked inside the protected Capocotta dunes about 30 km south of the city near Ostia. Locals call it "Il Buco", and large rainbow flags mark the section among the dunes. It is remote and relaxed, busiest from May to September. Reach it via the Roma–Lido train to Piramide, then a local bus along the Litoranea.
Getting there
Take the Roma–Lido train toward Ostia, then the local bus along the Litoranea. The gay and naturist section is in the protected dunes about 30 km south of the city, marked by rainbow flags and known locally as Il Buco.
When it's active
May through September, with weekends the busiest. Outside summer the dunes are a long trip for a quiet beach.
What to know
It is remote by design. Bring water, and do not treat the nature reserve as a place without rules.
