Cruising in Milan: Sempione and the outer parks

Sempione is the central night park. The other three are larger, further out, and only worth it if the trip home is real.

Milan’s outdoor spots are parks, and they sort themselves by how willing you are to leave the centre.

The one everyone means

Parco Sempione sits behind the Castello Sforzesco. After dark the paths near the Arco della Pace and the trees beyond the lake are the ones people are talking about. Summer nights pick up around 10pm. Porta Venezia, if you want a bar first, is a short walk rather than a project.

If you want cover

Boscoincittà is a large woodland on the western edge, reachable by tram 14, with no real facilities. Parco Lambro covers the north-east, along Via Crescenzago, from early evening. Parco Nord is the biggest of them and the most car-shaped: the relevant corner is the south-east, after dark.

How to choose

If this is your first night in the city, use Sempione. You can leave it on foot. The outer parks are better once you know which night bus or tram you are actually prepared to wait for. The full set is on the Milan map.
