Cruising in Berlin: Tiergarten and the neighbourhood parks

Start at the Victory Column meadow. Use Hasenheide or Friedrichshain when you want fewer tourists and more trees.

Berlin is the city where outdoor cruising is closest to ordinary. That does not make every corner of every park a good idea. It means the famous spot is famous for a reason, and the others exist so you are not stuck with it.

Tiergarten

Tiergarten has been used for well over a century. The Siegessäule is the landmark, and the Tuntenwiese on its south side is the meadow people name. Warm afternoons and summer evenings are the busiest. You will share the park with tourists climbing the column.

The local parks

Hasenheide, in Neukölln, is leafier: a nudist meadow and wooded corners, more privacy, less of a monument. Volkspark Friedrichshain draws a neighbourhood crowd near the Märchenbrunnen and stays quieter than the Tiergarten on the same evening.

How to use the week

Tiergarten when the weather is good and you want the density. Hasenheide when you would rather learn a smaller park. Friedrichshain when you are already in the east and do not feel like crossing town. All three are on the Berlin map.
